Tour price (including fundraising component) includes:
Numbers limited to 65 adult riders. The RouteThis bicycle tour is an event designed to enhance your appreciation of the wonderful natural assets of Far North Queensland. All proceeds go to the local Environment Centre in Cairns see About CAFNEC. As we would like to showcase the best of the Wet Tropics rainforests and avoid heavily cyclone-damaged areas, the route for 2012 will not finalised until after the wet season. However, it is expected that the route will only vary slightly from last year which saw riders start the tour from Innisfail (with transfers from Cairns included) and then ride up through the central section of Wooroonooran National Park going past the MaMu Rainforest Canopy Walk and Nandroya Falls (with an opportunity to visit these attractions on the way) and camping alongside beautiful Henrietta Creek. The ride then continued through the rainforest in  Wooroonooran National Park to Ravenshoe and Little Millstream Falls. From there riders headed south and west through open forest to Yourka Reserve, a Bush Heritage Australia property. Whilst staying at Yourka there was an option to help out on the property if interested and/or visit Herbert River Falls which drop down into the stunning Herbert River Gorge. This area has some magnificent swimming holes. After Yourka Reserve the tour headed through the western side of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area through largely untouched wilderness to Koombooloomba Dam. From there north along Tully Falls Road past the spectacular Tully Falls to the gorgeous historic village of Herberton and then across some exciting trails to Tinaroo Dam. The last day saw the tour make its way through the rainforests of the Wet Tropics past Copperlode Dam down Lake Morris Road back to Cairns. Please note: Mountain bikes or touring bikes with wider tyres and front suspension are essential for a comfortable ride. |
